Largest E Commerce Company- Amazon is going to shut down its Wine at the end of this year. The wine retailer has just informed sellers through emails. The issue is all about the existing laws surrounding alcohol sales. Amazon has tried to change the laws by working with regulators unnecessarily. Now the existing laws are creating difficulties for Amazon to sell alcohol as a retailer. It is also unable to operate marketplace.
That’s even more conflict now that Amazon owns Whole Foods, which also sells wine. Company does not want to mention plans of Amazon to expand its liquor delivery business through Prime Now and Amazon Fresh. Company clearly mentioned in the email sent to sellers, the retailer notes that wine will still be offered through Amazon, but not on Amazon Wine:
Amazon Wine had represented in late 2012. It was Amazon’s third attempt at entering the online wine sales market. The company has not said how well Amazon’s wine marketplace performed in terms of sales,
As per the online FAQ, sellers can continue to have online orders as they would otherwise. Customers will no longer be able to place an order after December 31, 2017. Buyers will also be unable to browse products on Amazon Wine.
According to company, sellers will no longer be able to add or edit products in Seller Central from January 1, 2018. But they will still be able to access their accounts. Similarly, customer base of Amazon wine will also be notified by email. Company will also display a message on the Amazon Wine homepage alerting online shoppers to the closing.
The main thing is that Amazon had to choose between its newer focus on alcohol deliveries through Amazon Fresh and its speedier delivery service. Even Company is also focusing Prime Now or its older marketplace, Amazon Wine.
